Jeanne saw the girl as she walked down the aisle laden with schoolbooks. While marveling that all of the books were brand new, in mint condition, and at second-hand prices, she waved at the unfamiliar girl.
"You a student, too?" she asked, gauging the girl's age to be near her own.

she nods with a bit of a smile. "I'm Magi Schützhund. it's a pleasure to meet you." with a polite incline of her head. "Some of my housemates recommend this shop. but if I may say I don't think I've seen you around school before."

"Yeah, I'm new this year," the girl replied, rubbing the back of her head and awkwardly twirling one of her bright blue highlights around her fingers. "I'm Jeanne Bordeaux. Just finished elementary school back home in the States, and my parents wanted to send me abroad for secondary. I only found out about this place because I happened to make a friend in the clothes store on the other street."
Cupping her hands around her mouth, she called over the aisles, "Hey, Alex! Get over here!"

Alex seemed to be in the middle of perusing an aisle filled with trinkets and charms. At that moment he held a tiny skull, the eyes fitted with rubies, a chain bored into the skull so it could be worn as a necklace. Upon hearing his name Alex put the skull down and rushed over to the two girls. "What? What's wrong?" he asked, seeming a bit worried for a moment until he saw that he didn't recognize the other girl. Must be another student..."Oh. Hello. I didn't know other students shopped here. I'd introduce myself, but I think Jeanne did that for me just now."
Holding out his hand to the girl to shake, he offered a small smile.

"Sorry if I freaked you out, man," Jeanne said to him, "just wanted to introduce you. Or maybe you guys have met at school?"

"No, we haven't." Alex replied. "I don't really know anyone at school."

Magi smiles and shakes the offered hand.
"I'm Magi." And with a bit of a smile "and you must be a ravenclaw."

Nodding, Alex tapped his house insignia with his hand. "That's me. Though I'm not sure what houses you two are in. Are we house mates?"

(Did not see that you had not swapped out of your school robes. *derp*)
Magi shakes her head "nope I'm not a ravenclaw, I'm a Slytherin."

"Um... Can we un-confuse the stupid American?" Jeanne asked. "What are you talking about, houses? Is it like frat houses or something? Like in college?"

She chuckles "houses can loosely be considered 'family's' or 'teams' when you get to school you will be sorted into one of them, the way they explain it to the first years is each of the houses value certain traits. Ravenclaw values knowledge. Huflepuffs swear by their loyalty. Gryffindors their bravery. and Slytherins our cunning." she pauses to think "anything else?"

"Well, yes..." Alex replied, though he was looking down at his feet again. "The houses have more than one trait, and those traits are up for interpretation. Like...you can be cunning, but placed into Ravenclaw because your cunning is more analytical. There's no set in stone way to tell which house you'll be in. Once you ARE sorted into a house though, there's no changing."

"as I said, that's how I remember it being explained when I was a first year. I might have miss-remembered what the hat was singing about."

"So, what, if I get sorted into a different group, I can't hang out with you guys?" she replied, sounding more than a little irked. "I mean, I know we just met, but but you seem pretty cool, and it'd suck if you only get to socialize with your own group."

"nothing stops you from hanging out with people from the other houses, you cant get into their common rooms. but that does not mean you can't hang out."
