So I've been re-reading the Harry Potter books, and I know we've done this before, but I was struck by a desire to give it another run. The story can unfold however seems most interesting, but I'd like us to work from the perspective of fluidity and "yes, and?" By that, I mean introducing a new plot hook or character or event, etc., should be done within the context of the scene (i.e. it can't be random bullshit, make it make sense) and roll with the improv.
This very old character of mine will be very detailed. You needn't all be this way, it's just how I roll.
Jeanne Mará Bordeaux
Appearance: Burgundy hair, often dyed with streaks of bright colors, honey gold eyes, and average height for her age. Aikido training since childhood has given her an athletic, if wiry, build and quite excellent posture. Age – 14 (recent transfer) Blood-status – Pure-blood Wand – made by her grandfather - 12 ½ inches - Rowan - Powdered Chimera Scale (from one he had fought) - Flexible, but still strong - Foot (grip, handle, etc.) has a spiral, braided vine pattern. - The carved vines continue to spiral down the length with small blossoms at each inch or so. Between the carved vines are intricate, runic shapes. - Wood is smooth with an iridescent silvery, brown-red finish - An elegant wand at first sight, its appearance might deceive. In actuality, it’s a particularly good wand for offensive spells (as the core would suggest), but, due to the wood it is made from, is certainly not lacking in protective areas. If the chimera its core came from (a particularly intelligent, strong, and difficult one to bring down) is anything to go by, this wand may have great potential. The spells it is used for will likely grow immensely in power as the user grows in skill. An interesting aspect of this wand is that even if the user is defeated in battle, it can be wielded by no one other than its original owner. School – Hogwarts (Gryffindor) Skillful Areas – Jinxes, Hexes, etc., Transfiguration, Potions (surprisingly), and, possibly, Divination. Patronus – Tigress Boggart – Darkness (really, the unknown) Animagi – Large hawk - Dark brown-red feathers on back and wings. - Tawny underside - White tail - Fleur-de-lis marked in gray on back Pets – Isis (a phoenix with an odd coloring) and Caramel (a small talking bunny) Favorite Quidditch Team – Tioga Dryads from Tioga County, PA. Hobbies – Writing, singing, video games, weaving hemp (jewelry, dream catchers, etc.), and flying. Playing Quidditch is fun, but not really a hobby. Broom – Aura Omega Other – Backup Seeker for Gryffindor, member of the Wizard Chess club, Magical Gamers’ Guild, and Sorcerous Muses (all at Hogwarts)
*Having come from the States, Jeanne will have differing views and slang terms than most at the school. Figured it’d be an added dose of realism.*

Ask and you shall receive...introducing Alex Schwarzwald.
Appearance: Alex is a gaunt, pale boy with wide blue eyes and a mess of tangled red hair. Unusually tall for his age, Alex seems to have hit the typical teenage growth spurt earlier than usual. He's typically looking off into the distance or down at the floor, and always seems to have a notebook clenched in his hand.
Age - 13 Blood-Status - Muggle Born (Parents deceased) Wand - 14 Inches, Pine, Dementor Shawl core. The design of the wand shaft is simplistic, with the handle's base shaped to look like the base of a tree. Along the handle are stylized branches that eventually entwine at the shaft, forming a sort of guard. On the base, scratched into the wood itself, is a strange symbol from Muggle stories: a circle with an X through it. When questioned about it Alex will usually shrug it off or change the subject. Colored almost entirely black, Alex seems to have also painted the tip of his wand white. School - Hogwarts (House Ravenclaw) Skillful Areas - Transfiguration, Divination, The Dark Arts Patronus - None up to this point. Alex has been unable to manifest a Patronus at all, let alone a developed one. Boggart - Unknown. Reports of Alex's encounter with Boggarts remain conflicted, though they all have elements in common: the boggart is tall, thin, humanoid, and difficult to focus on. Hobbies - Reading, writing in his journal, hiking, camping, magical research. Notable Achievements - Alex is one of the youngest Wizards known to invent and refine an entirely new spell, though if you ask Alex he'll say he "discovered" it. As per the decree of the Ministry of Magic, Alex is restricted from using his spell when outside of designated testing areas under Auror supervision. Other - Alex is a member of the Wizarding Gamer's Club, though typically only watches others play.

The room's windows rattled as a train passed nearby on its way deeper into London, the horn waking Jeanne from pleasant dreams of old friends. It had been a week now since she had come from "across the pond", as she had heard people say, and she still missed her former dueling companions bitterly. Regardless, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and quickly dressed before heading downstairs to breakfast. The pub owner had been very kind these last few days, and she gave him a bright smile and a pleasant "Good Morning, Tom!"
After quickly bolting down her food, she took the sheet of paper she'd been reviewing in hand and went out back to the cobblestone yard. A few taps on the back wall, and she was strolling leisurely down a newly revealed street full of shops and bustling people. She decided that her uniforms would be most important at first, especially since her list recommended "dress robes" on top of everything else, and walked into the nearest clothing store. Almost immediately, she was being measured and fitted by a tiny whirlwind of a woman with three measuring tapes.

"Ya, danke. I'll be back soon." he said in a soft tone to the shop owner. He was the youngest person in this part of Diagon Alley, but stopped drawing attention to himself as his visits became more regular. Alex had been visiting Knockturn Alley every chance he could get for supplies and advice on his "extra-curricular studies". For this visit he had picked up raw Asphodel and Valerian Root, claiming it was for Potions classes. A few sickles later and he was on his way out of the infamous place towards Diagon Alley. He kept his head down the entire time, clutching a worn notebook to his chest while the herbs remained in his robe pocket.
"Scheisse!" he muttered under his breath. He had forgotten that he needed a new robe. He hated shopping for clothes, not to mention the crowd around him. It felt suffocating to have so many other people around him. Ducking and weaving through the crowd with ease, he made a bee line for a nearby robe shop he'd visited the year prior in the hopes that they'd kept his measurements on file. As he opened the door he saw that someone he didn't recognize, a girl he guessed was about his age, was being accosted by one of the workers in a flurry of measuring tape. "E-excuse me, is the wait going to be long?" he asked quietly.

"Not at all, dear," replied a plump old witch with wispy, flyaway hair. "Shopping for a uniform? You look about school age, at any rate. Come along then, we'll get you set up."
She motioned for him to follow her to a stool and gestured for him to step up onto it, "Now then, which school will it be?"
The girl being measured looked over her shoulder at the new arrival as the woman working with her threw a uniform robe over her head and began pinning it up. The robe held her hair down uncomfortably, so she shook out her burgundy ringlets - several locks were dyed bright blue. The motion caused her to be pricked by a pin, and her brow crinkled briefly, but she showed no other reaction as the woman apologized and admonished her not to move.

Hesitant at first, the boy stepped up onto the stool with notebook in hand and robe still on. "Hogwarts...Ravenclaw House." he muttered. He spared a glance at the girl next to him, his attention drawn to the bright blue locks now visible. How odd, he thought. Most in the Wizarding world didn't style their hair like that. As the seamstress began her work he was forced to remove his robe and reveal the muggle style clothing underneath. Apparently the boy was a fan of Star Wars if his shirt was any indication.
"Hi." he finally said to the girl, his accent sounding different from the states or England. Perhaps German?

"Heya," she replied, her own accent identifying her as American. "Guess you're not from around here, either, huh? Came over from PA, myself. Sorry--- Pennsylvania. Name's Jeanne, since we'll be going to the same school and all."

"Alex." he replied, turning towards the Seamstress for a moment to explain that he preferred his sleeves to be a bit shorter than usual. "I've never been to the States. Heard horrible things about the muggle dealings there...no offense. How did you end up here? I thought the States had their own Wizarding educational system..."

"Oh, we do," Jeanne assured him, "and I went to Mary Newbury Memorial in Concord for elementary school, but Dad had always planned on sending me away for high school. He went to Durmstrang himself, actually, but I wormed my way out of that one, thankfully. He wouldn't even consider Beauxbatons or Athena Seminary, so Mom finally talked him into Hogwarts."
The woman measuring the girl did some final checking on the sleeve hems before carefully removing the fitted robes and passing them off to a magicked sewing machine. Stepping down, Jeanne added, "As for muggle stuff back home, some of them are kinda nuts, always expecting to see terrorists around the next corner, but most I've met are okay. Given, I haven't met very many. The upcoming elections have everyone arguing with everyone else right now, but when politics goes haywire, that's par for the course. It happens with presidential elections in the magical community, too."
"There's you done, dear," the seamstress said to her, handing her a bag with enough sets for a week. After paying, Jeanne said, "Hey... Alex.... It might be nice to know someone already when school starts up, so if you still have some shopping to do and you'd want to hang out...."

Alex was only half listening to the girl as she talked, paying more attention to the seamstress who was currently pinning his robe. With a flick of her wand the Seamstress was suddenly done, and Alex wore a fresh new robe emblazoned with the symbol of Ravenclaw. "Sure, we can do that." he replied, shoving his new robe into a satchel the store provided for him. "I'm stocking up on some herbs and supplies for the semester. Hogwarts has a green house, but...I like getting my own."
He moved for the door then stopped, turning to look at Jeanne. "Hey, aren't the Unforgivables legal in the States?" he asked, sounding curious more than anything.

"Actually, yeah," she replied, her surprise evident as they walked out into the waning sunlight, "and you're the first I've met here who hasn't acted like we're psychopaths for having it that way. It's not like people go around using them willy-nilly - they're very heavily regulated, and there are specific circumstances where they are considered a legally viable option. Like saving someone's life. Or, you know, behind closed doors. I hear there's a whole slew of people who enjoy recreational use of low-grade Cruciatus Curses."
She looked up at the partial cloud cover, narrowing her eyes, "How much more do you have to get aside from potion stuff? I still need books and fresh broom-care supplies, and it's likely to rain within the hour."

"The rain won't be a problem. Come on, I know where we can go." he said while keeping his eyes downcast. It seemed Alex was used to walking through crowds as he dodged and weaved between the people with the expertise of the anti-social. He traced his steps back to Knockturn Alley, whose street was almost completely covered by cris-crossing roofs. "There's a place further down that sells school supplies cheaper than on Diagon. The students avoid it because of what else they sell." The crowds thinned until Alex and Jeanne were the only two people out in the open. A figure here and there seemed to watch them, but for the most part they were left to their own devices.
A minute or two down Knockturn brought the young teens to a run-down looking place with a sign hanging by one chain at an angle...The Blind Eye. "In here." he said. Luckily she could see into the shop as he entered first; the interior looked immaculate and just as well stocked, if not better stocked, than any shop on Diagon Alley she'd seen.

"Hey, isn't this that dark magic street the old fart of an innkeeper told me to keep away from?" she asked, looking out the shop window to the dingy cobblestone road. "They've got, like, black market stuff here, old cursed items and shit, right? Weird place to find schoolbooks."
Turning back to the shop interior, she began examining shelves of neatly organized items, all classified by aisle. She had to admit their wares were much more affordable, and the quality seemed on-par, brands appeared legitimate. With a shrug, she set to filling a handy shopping basket with what supplies she needed, flicking her delicately carved wand to have it levitate along behind her
