So I couldn't be bothered to come up with a title. dresdenfiles.wikia.com/wiki/Dresden_Files <<---- for reference.
Basing character bio slightly on the tabletop game, so a High Concept is a phrase describing your basic character concept. The Trouble Aspect is something that tends to cause problems or get your character into trouble - this can be a major character flaw, a relationship to another character, something hanging over their head (the Doom of Damocles, anyone?), etc. I have put a lot of detail into the sections of background, but I don't expect anyone else to. Still, a few points for each of the three sections (Background, Rising Conflict, and The Story) would be good, and each should have another major character aspect related to each phase.
Background is where you come from - your family, friends, if you got in trouble a lot, if you have magic and when it manifested, where you were raised, etc. Those kinds of things.
Rising Conflict is a single major event in your character's history that shaped who he/she is now (see my example)
The Story is the first real adventure (or case) that your character went through.
We might end up running through several cases/plots, hence the lack of a set title. No one has to use the above Bio stuff, but I am. As our story begins, the Faerie Courts of Winter and Summer have been stirring of late. In turn, the Red and White Vampire Courts are uneasy. A storm is coming, and no one knows when or where the lightning will strike.
Name: Genevieve "Neva" Marek
Age: 26
High Concept: Oracle in Training
Trouble Aspect: Hell-Bent on Finding Odette (younger sister)
Languages Known: English, French, Japanese, Latin, Gaulish – dead language spoken in ancient Gaul, Sumerian, and Aramaic
Supernatural Traits: Wizard's Sight, Soulgaze if meeting someone's eyes for more than a moment, specializes in Spirit channeling and Divination rituals, afflicted by Cassandra's Tears, a condition causing prophetic visions that most people do not believe.
Background – Where Did You Come From?
- Born to a Canadian father (Stephen Marek) and a second-generation French-American mother (Adrienne Lyon), and raised in Quebec City. Both parents aspired to become members of the White Council of Wizards, but only Stephen achieved this goal as Adrienne’s supernatural gifts were mostly limited to the realm of spirits and certain demesnes of the Nevernever. Their modest home in the Basse-Ville district of the city’s Old Town was sometimes stuffy in the summer, given the tendency for modern amenities such as central air to break down around supernatural folk, but their small family lived comfortably otherwise. When Neva was eight, a second daughter (Odette) was born to Stephen and Adrienne – a small, delicate waif of a child on whom her older sister doted. Between the yearly Winter Carnival, Saint-Jean Baptiste Celebrations, and occasional ski-trips, their lives went on in contentment for several years. Stephen taught Neva all he knew when she manifested a gift for the wizard’s art, but Odette was always excluded from such lessons and chastised should she practice the strange magic the she possessed. One night, late in an especially wintry March, Adrienne and Odette simply vanished. Neva was old enough at the time to have her suspicions surrounding the reason for her mother and sister’s disappearance, but Stephen refused to speak of it. Hardly surprising, if Neva’s deductions were correct – what man wants to admit that his wife birthed a changeling?
- Phase Aspect: Council or Court? The Secret Shame of a Beloved Sister
Rising Conflict – What Shaped You?
- When Neva was 19, two years after her mother and sister’s disappearing act, she was struck by her first vision. It was a pleasant summer afternoon, which she had planned to spend with friends in Place Laurier, and Neva had been whether or not to purchase a CD when a terrible feeling of dizziness washed over her. Her vision greyed and shattered to expose a field of blinding, swirling white. The storm raged as she stumbled through, shivering with cold, until a child’s scream galvanized her into a run. It was familiar, the same sound she had heard when her sister had been dragged into the sea on their one family trip to the Caribbean. Odette was in danger again, she was calling, and Neva had no choice but to answer. She ran for a lifetime, through the snow and wind, but faltered when she came up against the mirrored face of a massive ice wall which stretched on infinitely in either direction. The screams came again, and Neva attacked the ice, blasting fist-sized craters out of it, but the wall reformed as fast as she could throw her bolts of energy. Exhausted, she caught sight of her reflection, but it was not her, did not reflect the blizzard at her back. Instead, the mirrored ice showed a verdant forest, brilliant with color in a way that could only occur in the Nevernever. Lively denizens of the fae realm danced about the trees and revel fires. In their midst stood a slight, dark-haired girl, lit from behind with a brilliant golden light. Her elfin features conveyed an expression of mischief and affection as she raised a finger to her lips and words whispered across Neva’s mind, Just between us, alright? Neva awoke in a hospital bed where it was explained to her that she had suffered a seizure and collapsed at the mall. It was several more hours until she was released with instructions to return for a diagnosis if it happened again, and as her father drove her home, she detailed her vision. He urged her not to think too much on its significance, but as time went on and she accurately predicted tragic events, from car crashed to the terrorist attacks in France, Stephen came to believe that his daughter was afflicted by the prophetic condition known as Cassandra’s Tears. As his own knowledge of the affliction was highly lacking, he negotiated to transfer Neva’s apprenticeship to Bridget O’Reilly, a venerated member of the White Council living in (insert city name) who specialized in the study of psychic abilities.
- Phase Aspect: Epileptic Prophecies – Fan-freaking-tastic!
The Story – What Was Your First Adventure?
- When a terrible vision warns of a dark force rising in (insert city name) and with Fairie activity in the mortal realm on the rise, Genevieve “Neva” Marek begs her mentor’s leave to investigate in the hopes of finding information on her missing sister, Odette. The search seems hopeless until Neva stumbles into a ploy by a powerful sorcerer to aid the Winter Court of the Fairie in overthrowing Summer. Tempted with an offer of information from the Winter Lady in exchange for adding her power to their forces, will Neva accept or choose to keep the balance between Winter and Summer?
- Story Title: Blood, Fae, and Tears
- Phase Aspect: In Favor with Summer Court
